The licensing ceremony of CAST Program of International Collaboration Platform for Science and Technology Organizations in Belt and Road Countries

After the conference, Wuhan Institute of Virology cooperated with Hubei Society for Microbiology and Wuhan Society for Microbiology and held the launching ceremony of International Training Center on Biosafety Laboratory Management and Techniques in Zhengdian Park. Mr. Wang Qinglin, Mr. Wang Dongfeng, the Level II Bureau Rank Official of Hubei Association for Science and Technology, Mr. Zhao Chonghai, the Division Director of the Comprehension Division of CAST International Liaison Department, and Mrs. Wang Lei, the Level I Principal Staff Member of the International Department of Hubei Association for Science and Technology, were present. Prof. Guan Wuxiang, the Deputy Director General of Wuhan Institute of Virology, on behalf of the institute, extended a warm welcome to the leaders from CAST and provincial association for science and technology and thanked sincerely the strong support provided for Center establishment and development. During his speech, Prof. Guan Wuxiang introduced the advantages and characteristics of the Institute in the international training about biosafety and proposed specific requirements about future development of the Center.
Mr. Wang Dongfeng said that, in order to implement practically the decision deployment about the Central Government’s support for Wuhan, Hubei Province and serve in Wuhan’s revitalization and social-economic development after epidemic diseases, CAST worked out, implemented and supported a package plan for Wuhan’s revitalization after the diseases, focusing on Wuhan’s economic revitalization, health remodeling and cooperative development after the diseases. The organization and implementation of the International Training Center on Biosafety Laboratory Management and Techniques are the important contents are the important contents in the “package plan”, which will lay foundation for carrying out multilateral and bilateral international exchanges and cooperation between China and BRI participating countries. These activities are the practical actions of implementing the Secretary-General Xi Jinping’s series of important instruction spirit and Party Central Committee’s decision deployment, and of supporting revitalization of Hubei Province after the epidemic disease. He hoped that Wuhan Institute of Virology could continue to carry forward pragmatic, aggressive work spirit of practice, and further innovate the international training working modes in the situation of normalized plague prevention. He expected the Center could be formally launched in the international and China’s biosafety fields and be an important platform of China’s international cooperation and exchanges in prevention and control of infectious diseases, biosafety research, etc.
Mr. Wang Qinglin pointed out that the current world was facing with a big shift that had not occurred even in last hundred years. CAST positively responses to Belt and Road Initiative and the goal of propelling the establishment of human community with a shared future that were proposed by President Xi Jinping, and establishes the cooperation platform construction projects for BRI international scientific and technical organizations so as to further propel the Belt and Road building from the standpoints of the civil and international platforms. He called for everyone to open eyes to the whole world, think about from a higher perspective and proactively participate in global governance so as to propel the building of the human community with a shared future. Mr. Wang Qinglin said science and technology are the fruit of human culture development and the brainchild owned by human beings. Active sharing the achievements from human technology development is also an embodiment of China’s science and technology human rights. CAST thought that the international training Center built by Wuhan Institute of Virology to higher organs was a proactively response to BRI. It was hoped that the Center could make efforts in promoting the public communication of the BRI regions and further promote scientific “go global”. Finally, he announced the formal launching of the Center and extended wishes for a better Center in the future to play its true role.
After the launching ceremony, the visitors visited Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory, and learnt about the outstanding contributions made by the institute in the fight against COVID-19 as well as the construction, operation and safety management of Wuhan P4 Laboratory.
