Background

Viral infections transcend geographical boundaries, and the emergence of new viral diseases has become a global challenge. In the last two to three decades, factors such as climate and ecological shifts, changes in human behavior, and the rapid pace of globalization have contributed to the emergence of various infectious diseases. Viral infectious diseases such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), flu, Ebola virus disease, Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), zika virus disease, and COVID-19 have not only persisted but also spread globally. These diseases pose significant threats to public health and have profoundly affected global economic growth and social stability.

The International Symposium on Emerging Viral Diseases (ISEVD), initiated by Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (WIV, CAS), has been a platform for academic exchange since its inaugural event in 2004. It aims to foster communication and collaboration among researchers globally, keeping them abreast of the latest advancements in the field of emerging viral diseases. The 11^th ISEVD is scheduled for September 21-23, 2024, in the scenic city of Wuhan. The event will feature a rich program including keynote speeches, invited talks, and youth forums, showcasing the latest research progress in China and around the world on viral diseases and addressing the most pressing issues in the discipline's evolution.

This symposium will be conducted in a physical format, and we extend a warm invitation to scholars, researchers, and graduate students from across the globe to join us. Your participation will enrich the dialogue and contribute to the collective understanding of emerging viral diseases.
